Cornerstone of the cultural offer of Aggius are the two museums: the Museum of Banditry and the MEOC (Ethnographic Museum Oliva Carta Cannas), which preserve the proofs of the ancient past of the village, operating on the territory in order to retain the historical memory, but especially enhancing it in the interest of improving the quality of life of future generations.
Especially the Museum of Banditry, proposes to carry out research on material evidences of man and his environment: acquiring, preserving, communicating them and especially exposing them for the purposes of study, education and delight. Without running the risk of idealizing the figure of the Outlaw and exalting his deeds, the aim of the museum is rather, to disseminate positive values for the construction of a mentality that encourages legality and of public morality at every level. In an area such as Gallura, protagonist of the phenomenon of banditry for about three centuries, this cultural pole fits perfectly, offering visitors and residents an overview on documents, photos, movies, objects and proofs of the past, but especially trying to stimulate reflections on a future to build together.
Another important cultural attraction is the MEOC, the biggest ethnographic museum in Sardinia, a real treasure of the island, located inside a suggestive structure for the size of the exhibition halls and the particular care with which it has been realized that integrates masterfully the majesty of granite, with green areas. The museum contains all the wealth of history, traditions and popular culture of Gallura, from 1600 until present day.
Very particular is the faithful reconstruction of the “traditional house“, with furniture of the period, objects of daily use, a path through the activities of the domestic economy and food production (wine, bread, cheese, lentisk oil).
An important part of the exhibition are also the evidences of Aggius handicrafts, first among all: textile production, which sees in the “Permanent Exhibition of the carpet of Aggius“, its maximum celebration. There are also plenty of spaces dedicated to the working of the wood, granite, cork and metals.
A special mention should go to the workshops organized inside the museum, among which those of: the traditional bread, the processing of wool, the weaving workshop, the ancient street games, the design studio with reconstruction of rag dolls, handwriting and finally one on aromatic and medicinal herbs.
