Thanks to the passion of Rita Gabriella Lutzu, owner of Laboratorio tessile L’Albero Padre, Aggius, village among the oldest ones in the area, is the only one to have served the tradition of weaving with hand looms.
In Gallura, in the green hills of Sardinia, Aggius is a pleasant tourist destination for those who want to immerse themselves in a peaceful reality rooted in tradition.
The Laboratorio tessile L’Albero Padre uses the wool of the Sardinian sheep; a shaggy wool, perfect for weaving carpets. This can be coloured with vegetable dyes (made from berries, roots, leaves, peels and barks) expertly matched to obtain a rich range of colours. Ethnic flavour Colours that give a solar connotation to the furnishing of a house. They find a perfect fit in modern settings.
Another technique used at Laboratorio tessile L’Albero Padre provides for the absence of dyeing, that is colours are obtained by mixing, at the time of carding, white and black, natural colours of the sheep wool. These fabrics take on a natural and at the same time refined appearance. The third type of staining uses modern chemical dyeing techniques, and if you lose a little ‘the charm of historic colours”, you buy in the variety and brilliance.
The presented designs are usually geometric inspiration. Other motifs such as palm or daisy, usually used as borders, can be developed up to decorate an entire carpet.
Ms. Gabriella has been working with the loom for 35 years…she realizes tailored carpets also with motifs on request.
